After a thrilling Champions League game Manchester United ended up making all sorts of headlines regarding their performances, on and off the pitch. Andre Onana‘s magnificent penalty save against Copenhagen drew a lot of appreciation from teammates and fans.

One such incident was from his young teammate Alejandro Garnacho who uploaded a social media post that has been caught under scrutiny by the FA. He posted a picture of the team celebrating with the goalkeeper and a gorilla emoji which is being investigated for potential racism.

However, Onana came to the immediate defense of his teammate. He cleared that he was not offended by the gesture. Further, he stated that as a Black athlete, it would be his preference to choose what he is offended by. His teammate’s action does not fall under that category. Onana wrote on his socials:

Manchester United have been lucky to have some of their players step up when they most needed them recently. Harry Maguire has improved massively in the earlier games and would be looking forward to a good performance as they host Manchester City at the derby next.
