Antoine Griezmann expresses desire to follow Lionel Messi to MLS, calls him the ‘best in history’

Antoine Griezmann recently confessed his desire to ‘end up’ in the MLS to wind up his career. He said that Lionel Messi was the ‘best thing’ to happen to football in the USA. This comes after his influence was filling in stadiums, and he was helping his team win matches. From last-minute free-kicks to goals, Messi has undoubtedly been raising the standards at his new club, which has caught the global eye.
In a virtual press conference organized by La Liga and ESPN, Messi still seemed to catch all the attention. Expressing his desire for the culture of the sport in the US, Griezmann said, “Yes, I’ve been following Messi. My target is to end up there with everything I like about American sports, playing in MLS and enjoying myself, winning things, and being at my best level.“
While some fans on social media criticized him for choosing a retirement home in America over Saudi. It seems like the French wants to enjoy his time in the US because he feels the country is historically diverse in sports culture. He has also been a long-time admirer of the scenario of sports in America, often seen at Superbowl or NBA matches.
He added that before talking about the last phase of his career, he would first like to create history with Atletico Madrid and win ‘lots of trophies’ before he can consider a retirement plan. While Europe saw a mass exodus of players after Cristiano Ronaldo initiated the movement to Saudi, Griezmann said he wouldn’t rule out a move over there either if the right offer arrived.

Ever since teenager Kylian Mbappe scored in the finals and won the Les Blues World Cup in 2018, he has constantly been the center of attention for the team. Likely so; he has also constantly performed as well. Nonetheless, Antoine Griezmann shines up as a figure who acts like the glue, holding the entire national team together through his on and off-pitch presence. He was in hot form for the national team in both campaigns.
While in 2018, he featured as a second striker or a number 10 in the current version of Didier Deschamps team in 2022, he also played his role beautifully as a midfielder. On multiple occasions, he set up the ball on a plate for his teammates to convert, displaying his world-class creativity and vision. His performances even amassed praise from rival managers such as Gareth Southgate, who labeled him a ‘phenomenal player’.
Already a World-champion for his country, Griezmann would like to give his best and try his feet at another trophy with the national teams before he finally considers hanging up his boots. Having recently confessed his desire to rack up even more goals and improve constantly, it seems there’s still a long way to go before his fighting spirit runs out of fuel.
