“Flop of the century” – Fans mercilessly TROLL Antony after Brazilian ends 2023 with just one goal for Manchester United

Manchester United signed Brazilian winger Antony from Ajax for a total of $109 million in September 2022. The club had high hopes for the promising winger who was in stellar form in Eredivisie. However, fast-forward a year, their big-money signing seems to have backfired. An extremely poor run of form, followed by a domestic abuse scandal and ‘absence’ from the team has marred the #21’s time at Old Trafford.

A shocking statistic reveals just how much of a fall from grace the Brazilian has suffered. Antony has failed to register a single goal or assist in 21 games in all competitions for Manchester United. More embarrassingly, he has only scored 1 goal in all competitions for Erik ten Hag‘s side. Many have even mocked the winger for his poor involvement on the pitch.

Furthermore, it is clear that he has failed to live up to his price tag, and is now left with a 23-year-old who is struggling for form. His most recent game, against Nottingham Forest, saw him ‘berated’ by former Goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel.

The player was subbed off after 54 minutes and was replaced by Amad Diallo. Schmeichel said that Antony doesn’t understand the game as a winger. He also slammed his £200K-a-week salary in contrast to his poor performances.

Fans react to Antony’s poor numbers in 2023

It is safe to say that Antony is not a fan favorite at the moment. The 23-year-old is now a mere shadow of what he used to be at Ajax, which does not sit well with United fans. Many have taken to social media after his stats for the year were published. Antony has been subject to a multitude of trolls after the same was published. His solitary goal to show for 2024 was brutally mocked by fans.

A fan commented that he is probably the worst signing in Manchester United history. Another added that even though Jadon Sancho hasn’t been playing for a while, he still has more league goals than Antony in 2023. Fans spammed images and videos of Antony’s failed ‘spins’ which happens to be his trademark move. Supporters did not spare Gary Neville either, who claimed that the Brazilian could evolve into a ‘Mahrez type of player’ in the future.

Others praised Ajax for ‘somehow’ managing to convince United to pay such a hefty amount for the player. A majority of the comments were just to laugh at the player’s poor state at the club. Others mockingly asked for Antony’s Brazilian passport, claiming that he was not a real Brazilian to begin with. The United star currently earns £200,000 per week and has a contract at the club until 2027 with an option of an additional year.
