“Go cry elsewhere,” Argentina’s Angel Di Maria hits out at Adil Rami over his insulting remarks against Emiliano Martinez

Emiliano Martinez’s contentious World Cup final conduct has sparked another feud, this time between the goalkeeper’s teammate Angel Di Maria and Adil Rami. The Aston Villa goalkeeper was vital in Argentina’s victory over France to win the title in Qatar earlier this month. He made a decisive save in extra time before turning aside Kingsley Coman’s penalty in the shootout and raucously celebrating after.

Adil  Rami, a 2018 World Cup champion with France, then referred to Martinez as “the biggest s*** in football” but Di Maria who scored in the grand finals, has now responded. Following a tense final, the 36-year-old Troyes centre-back took to social media to express his displeasure with Martinez’s actions, which included making a vulgar gesture with the Golden Glove trophy that was given out following the game.

During Argentina’s post-match celebrations in the nation’s capital, Buenos Aires, he also carried a Kylian Mbappe doll to ridicule the PSG forward whose hat-trick was inadequate to win the match. Later, France filed a formal complaint. On his Instagram account, Rami also referred to the 30-year-old as “the most hated man,” but Juventus winger Di Maria who scored in the final retaliated fiercely.

Di Maria said: “El Dibu (Martinez) is the best goalkeeper in the world. Go cry elsewhere.” Rami replied on Instagram: “Can you teach me?’ showing four pictures of Di Maria himself crying with the captions: ‘When you lose’, ‘when you win’, ‘when you leave a club’, ‘when you see this tweet.”

Leandro Paredes and German Pezzella, Martinez’s teammates, responded to Rami’s comments by saying: “Now say it without crying Rami.” “Get out of here,” Pezzella continued with a giggle, referring to captain Lionel Messi’s remarks to Holland’s Wout Weghorst after Argentina narrowly defeated Holland in the quarterfinals thanks to more trickery from the South American team.

Martinez’s “stupid” move to mock France after the final was also slammed by Crystal Palace manager and former French World Cup champion Patrick Vieira, who has not yet heard back from the Argentine team.
