Brentford’s Ivan Toney who has been away from professional football due to an eight-month suspension has been on Arsenal’s radar. He recently featured for Brentford B in a behind-closed-doors friendly for the side against Como. This has further intensified the competition for his signature.
The twenty-seven-year-old striker has been a top target for various big clubs including Chelsea and Manchester United. Toney’s initial ban was for fifteen months which was later reduced to an eight-month sentence for breaching the FA’s betting rules. He was found guilty of over 230 breaches of betting rules.
However, Arsenal’s hopes of securing the star striker’s signature could be further complicated due to the Premier League’s rules. According to them, there is a limit set to a maximum of four incoming loans in a season, with only one player allowed from the same club simultaneously.
This complicates Toney’s eligibility to return in January and further makes the transfer situation more complex for Arsenal. Despite Brentford setting a hefty £100 million price tag, Toney has been a dream signing for the Gunners making the next transfer window, one to watch closely as clubs compete to secure his services.
Arsenal plot huge sweep for star striker and defender in January
In a bid to fortify their squad for the upcoming challenges, Arsenal is actively planning a formidable double swoop in the January transfer window. Manager Mikel Arteta, who has steered the team through a demanding first half of the season, is eyeing improvements both upfront and at the back. Two prominent targets on Arsenal’s radar are Sporting CP’s Ousmane Diomande and Victor Gyokeres.
Gyokeres, who arrived at Sporting CP from Coventry in a £20 million deal, holds a substantial £85 million release clause in his contract. On the other hand, the Gunners are considering activating the £69 million release clause for Diomande, a highly-rated 20-year-old defender who has consistently impressed. These potential acquisitions could cost Arsenal a combined sum exceeding £150 million.
As the January transfer window approaches, the battle for these sought-after talents might intensify, with both London clubs vying to secure the services of these promising players. The success of these potential transfers could prove pivotal for Arsenal’s campaign, providing the depth and quality needed to sustain their title challenge in the Premier League.
