During the 2022/23 Premier League season, Manchester City won 28 matches, beating every but one club in the season. City managed to beat rivals Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea with ease, but failed to beat Brentford. Both times.
The first loss against Brentford came on 12th November 2022. The Bees had traveled to the Etihad and won 2-1, with Ivan Toney scoring a brace. In the reverse fixture, Ethan Pinnock’s strike in the 85th minute got them the three points.
Now City return to the GTech Community Stadium, looking for a victory that could jump them at points level with Arsenal. With two games in hand over Liverpool, they could jump to the top of the league if they win their balance.
Moreover, the fixture is one Arsenal and Liverpool fans will keep an eye on. With the Gunners beating the Reds 3-1, the title race has become more interesting with all three teams having the possibility of winning the Premier League title. The match was originally supposed to be played on 23rd December but was postponed.
Fans hope for Manchester City to drop points
Arsenal and Liverpool fans will be hoping for a City loss, as if they win they get a massive advantage in the title race. Many rival fans also hoped that the Blues lost the match, as they are a pretty unpopular club amongst other fans.
Here are some of the fans’ reactions:
Brentford, currently ranked 15th, received a big boost as Ivan Toney returned from his betting suspension. In the two games since, he scored twice.
Meanwhile, Erling Haaland has recovered from injury and is now playing alongside Kevin de Brunye, adding to City’s attacking threat. City trail Liverpool by five points, but if they win their postponed matches, they could take the lead.
City aim for their fourth consecutive Premier League title after winning the Threepeat last season. Liverpool hopes to bid farewell to Jurgen Klopp with a title, while Arsenal seeks their first championship in two decades.
