Liverpool take on Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday. While either side are relatively high up in the Premier League table (first and third), both have missed out on crucial midfield players due to injury. Both Thiago Alcantara and Thomas Partey have been sidelined for the majority of this season, with Partey missing out since October.
The Arsenal midfielder’s last game came against Manchester City, in which the Ghanaian suffered a muscle (thigh) injury. He has been in recovery ever since, with his prolonged absence coming much to the frustration of fans. Many lost ‘control’ when news of Thiago Alcantara’s return hit the internet. The Spaniard has been sidelined for over 280 days and is already in training, looking sharper than ever.
As for Arsenal, the club will be missing Partey against Liverpool after Mikel Arteta admitted that the player had suffered yet another ‘setback’. Arsenal’s boss also said,
He felt something again in a very similar area.
In sharp contrast to what Arteta said, Klopp assured fans of Thiago’s return. The German said,
Thiago trained for the first time which was an incredible moment. He needs time, but it's a wonderful sign.
A win for Arsenal on Sunday would see the Gunners climb to second, above Manchester City.
Fans react to Thomas Partey’s unfortunate ‘development’
Fans have seemingly had enough of Thomas Partey and his injury-prone physique. The midfielder has been out of action for the last 4 months, and yet another development in his injury now forces him to miss the game against Liverpool on Sunday. An angry fan said that it’s shameful how a player who underwent surgery and was out for over 200 days could return earlier than him.
Another chimed in, claiming that Partey is acting like he is shot. Some couldn’t help but laugh at Arsenal’s misery and Partey’s inability to get fit. A fan laughed at how Partey’s injury couldn’t be figured out even if it was investigated by NASA themselves. Another mocked at how Partey must’ve felt his ankle bracelet in response to Mikel Arteta’s claim. The manager said that Partey felt something in his ankle during a press conference.
The game on Sunday will feature neither Thiago nor Partey. In their absence, Arsenal and Liverpool will battle it out for all three points tomorrow. Liverpool can establish an eight-point lead in the Premier League with a win against the Gunners. However, if Mikel Arteta and co. manage to slay the Reds, they will find themselves in second, even though Manchester City will have two games in hand, come Sunday.
