Arsenal forward, Gabriel Martinelli has praised Portuguese football legend, Cristiano Ronaldo claiming, “To me, he[Cristiano] is the number 1 above everyone else.”
Cristiano Ronaldo’s best trait, many believe, is hard work. Brazilian forward, Martinelli is but one of the many players to laud the player’s elite mentality to work hard throughout his career. “The best part about him is his winning comes from hard work and dedication,” the Arsenal star stated in an interview. “I watch a lot of videos of him, I learn a lot from Cristiano,” he further added claiming, “When it comes to mentality, no one comes close to Cristiano and that’s the mentality that we want at Arsenal”.
The Brazilian forward has certainly followed up on what he claimed as the Martinelli enjoyed his best time in an Arsenal kit last season being the club’s top scorer with 15 goals. The player even managed to score a late winner against defending champions Manchester City in their recent game at the Emirates marking Mikel Arteta’s first win against his former mentor, Pep Guardiola.
Only 22 years old, Martinelli has showcased maturity well beyond his years, and with the pressure piling on Arsenal to perform similarly to last season, consistency will be key for the young boy from Brazil.
Arsenal is currently tied on points with North London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur. However, Spurs are currently in first place due to more goals scored which means the Gunners have to settle for 2nd place as the Premier League takes a halt owing to the International Break.
Gabriel Martinelli looks to build on his form from last season
Arsenal signed Gabriel Martinelli from Brazilian side, Ituano in 2019 for a fee of £ 6 million. With many apprehensive about signing an unknown 18-year-old winger from Brazil, the player put those doubts to rest as he quickly established himself as a mainstay in Mikel Arteta’s side, starting over 34 times for Arsenal in the league last season.

Scoring 15 goals in all competitions, the winger enjoyed his best spell under Arteta’s tenure last season as the club just barely missed out on the Premier League title. “It’s another year, we’re going to try to improve things, do better than last year. But I think we are stronger this year,” the player spoke after Arsenal’s first win in 12 Premier League against Manchester City.
With the side from North London looking more mature and concentrated from last season, Gabriel Martinelli along with his coach Mikel Arteta will look to correct the mistakes of last season which cost them their first league title in almost 20 years.
