Arsenal Star, Oleksandr Zinchenko, has shown his support for Israel following an attack by a Palestinian Sunni-Islamic fundamentalist, militant, and nationalist organization, Hamas.

In an attack that has seen more than 300 Israelis killed, many worldwide figures have shown their support for the nation. Zinchenko is but one of the many global figures to show his support. However, due to Israel’s history with the state of Palestine, many fans online have called the player a hypocrite for his stance. “I STAND WITH ISRAEL”, was the quote the player shared on his Instagram story. While the player could have been sharing his support simply due to the attack the nation faces, many have interpreted this act as the player’s support towards Israel as a whole and not exclusive to the ‘war’.

Oleksandr Zinchenko gained global support after going to several media outlets on a passionate rant about the ongoing war occurring due to Russia in his home country of Ukraine. However, now the player has divided opinion among the masses with his recent ‘story’. The player has now, at the moment, kept his account private and has deleted the story.

With Arsenal set to face Manchester City this Sunday, the last thing the player needed was something of this nature to occur to him. Will the public backlash affect his performance? Emirates will wait and watch.

X users have shown their disgust at Zinchenko’s story no secret with many labeling the player a hypocrite for supporting the nation of Israel. Many users have gone on to call out the player for showing support for a nation that has been doing the same for several years now. With multiple tweets calling him a ‘crying man’ and many resorting to showing their support for Russia in rebellion against the player, his recent story has caused more harm than he would have liked.

Zinchenko has shown himself to be an emotional person as the player has been seen on several occasions crying on the bench after a poor performance. His actions may have been in kind to those being affected by the attacks, however, many online chose to interpret this in their own manner making him public enemy number one. This was the last thing he needed before a big game at the Emirates against his former club, but for now, he will have to confront this public backlash later as Mikel Arteta will be relying on his fullback against Pep Guardiola’s men.
