The matter of the assault has been taken up seriously by the Football Association. The PGMOL which deals with matters with regard to the referees has released an official statement saying, the Greek official won’t be scheduled with any more matches until the Football Association completes its investigation into the matter.

As the referee allegedly assaulted the player in the face with his elbow, it could possibly fall under technical assault. If the same is considered, the referee would be in serious danger. As per what former Premier League referee official Mark Halsley stated, the referee might have to face a ban of a minimum of 8 matches due to his action.

In the meantime, the referee is barred from officiating any matches in the Premier League. The referee might have to pay a heavy fine as per FA rules and regulations. We have only to wait to see, what turns out in the investigation report by the Football Association.
