Atletico Madrid still trying to get Antoine Griezmann for free from Barcelona
One of Atletico’s most successful players over the last years, Antoine Griezmann signed for Barcelona in 2019 for a hefty fee of €120 million. However, the Frenchman didn’t enjoy the same success at Camp Nou as he did at the Metropolitana.
Griezmann returned to Atletico Madrid on loan last season with a buy option of €40 million. While the fee is low, Atletico still considers it quite high for the 31-year-old who didn’t explain perform highly this season.
Hence, both clubs are working to find the best solution for the player. As of now, Atletico is prepared to offer Alvaro Morata to Barcelona in a swap transfer. The Blaugrana need a striker and Morata was one of their targets last January.
Morata is also reportedly open to signing for Barcelona, however, the Catalan club’s first choice is Robert Lewandowski. Should they fail to sign the Polish international, a swap between Morata and Griezmann could take place.
