When Marcus Rashford was scoring goals for fun during the start of 2023, he started a trend that reached every corner of the football world, and even other sports. After scoring, he celebrated by pointing his finger to the temple – signaling a greater ‘mentality’. The celebration went viral, with many people associating it with him.
Unfortunately for the Manchester United forward, many players have claimed the celebration to be theirs. Ruben Neves claimed in February that he started the celebration, with him doing it in the same game Rashford first pulled it out. Now, the Real Madrid star has claimed that he was the first player to pull off the celebration.
Aurelien Tchouameni recently was interviewed by Kick Game, where they spoke about his personal life, fashion sense, and his love for sneakers. When the host Craig Mitch asked the 23-year-old who came up with the celebration, Tchouameni claimed it was originally his and not Rashford’s.
After scoring against England in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, the Real Madrid star pointed his finger to his temple. Marcus Rashford meanwhile was on the bench for England. That goal was the opener of the game. Harry Kane did equalize with a penalty in the 54th minute, but Oliver Giroud scored 25 minutes later. Kane had an opportunity to equalize in the 82nd minute with another penalty, but he missed and England were knocked out.
Who started this celebration – The footballing world is puzzled!
Many fans on the internet have debated who created the celebration. Although it got into the limelight thanks to Marcus Rashford, many people have always debated who did the celebration first.
It was first seen on the biggest stage of world football when Tchouameni did it. But Ruben Neves had publicly claimed that it was his celebration. Along with that, many fans have claimed that Roma’s Houssem Aouar was the first to do it during his Lyon days. Tennis fans have claimed Swiss player, Stan Warwinka, was the first to do it.
Although the celebration is affiliated with Rashford, the forward hasn’t done it enough this season. He’s had a massive dip in form, scoring only 3 goals in 24 appearances. He now fights for a spot in the starting 11 with Alejandro Garnacho, who has proved his worth.
