Soccer icon Lionel Messi‘s influence after coming to the MLS has been nothing short of unreal. The Argentine superstar took the league by storm. Moreover, his team went on a winning streak before the player was eventually injured. NBA legend LeBron James, Kim Kardashian and David Beckham were in attendance for Messi’s debut match back in July.
Recently, popular music sensation Bad Bunny heaped praise on the player. In his latest album, the artist had a verse praising the Argentine. He said, “Ever since Messi arrived in the USA, now everybody knows who the GOAT is. It’s not Tom Brady anymore.” The latter, who is a seven-time Super Bowl winner, is widely regarded by many as the G.O.A.T. of American football.
However, Bad Bunny’s verse is certain to spark controversy among fans of the Argentine and American superstars. The artist has mentioned Lionel Messi a total of five times in his new album. From praising Messi and Maradona to drawing comparisons with Kylian Mbappe and himself, it is no secret that Bad Bunny is a die-hard fan of the 36-year-old.
Tom Brady has a net worth of $300 million and has had an illustrious career in the NFL. On the other hand, Lionel Messi has almost double the amount, with his net worth valued at $600 million. Brady also appeared in a tribute video ahead of Messi’s arrival in Miami.
Lionel Messi’s ranking in Ballon d’Or Power Rankings
There are just over two weeks left until the 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony. Netizens and fans have been wondering who really deserves the award. Days before, French International Adrien Rabiot ruled Messi out of contention for the trophy. He said that the real competition will be between Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.
Moreover, Messi’s family friend, Alessandro Dossetti, claimed that Leo had already won the award. He said that Messi was already informed of his status as a winner. This has given rise to much controversy on social media. As for power rankings, Lionel Messi still remains in pole position. His exhilarating World Cup win, bagging the POTT of the World Cup, gives him an indisputable claim.
However, Haaland had a record-breaking season himself. He earns his position as second in the rankings thanks to a treble-winning season with Manchester City. Fans may witness Haaland taking a step ahead in the debate versus Mbappe. However, it may also be the night that Messi secures his record eighth.
