Barcelona announces €98 million profit for 2021-22 season; forecasts a triple gain after selling TV rights and Barca studios

Barcelona reported a €98 million profit for the 2021–2022 season. The Spanish team experienced a financial crisis at the beginning of the last campaign, which resulted in them losing Lionel Messi to PSG since they were unable to extend his contract.
Since then, they have taken a variety of steps to try and address the situation, including getting certain players to agree to defer their salaries, selling the stadium’s naming rights to Spotify, and even selling a sizeable chunk of their TV rights. Barca shared the financial specifics of the previous season along with their budget and forecast for the future on Monday, outlining the current state of the club’s finances.
The club claims that throughout that time, they earned a profit of just about €100 million. “At the end of the previous season, the Barça Board closed the 2021/22 financial year with a turnover of 1,017 million euros and a profit of 98 million euros,” the club said in an official statement.
Barcelona have forecasted a profit of 274 million euros for 2022-23 season
After cutting their payroll and utilizing a number of “economic levers” this summer, including the sale of TV rights, they anticipate making a significantly higher profit for the 2022–23 season.
“The Board of Directors has approved the budget for the 2022/23 season that includes an operating income budget of 1,255 million euros, with a profit forecast of 274 million euros,” they stated. Despite this, the club is still striving to better their financial situation by either seeking to sell players with big salaries like Frenkie de Jong or continuing to push those players to take salary cuts.
