FC Barcelona Legend, Carles Puyol shared his thoughts on Real Madrid star, Vinicius Jr stating, “‘I would love to talk to him”. This comes after the Brazilian was caught on camera against Rayo Vallecano telling their goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski, to meet him outside of the pitch in an aggressive manner.
Carles Puyol’s comments came in an event that was being held in Spain, where the former Barcelona fullback commented on the current state of the game and Real Madrid.
He praised Real Madrid’s Brazilian forward stating:
Vinicius is a great footballer, he makes differences and he would have to be admired in all fields. I'd love to talk to him as a professional partner and tell him what I think. If I changed his attitude he would have more recognition.
However, he also felt that the player has more to give and his attitude is holding him back.
Real Madrid’s new summer signing, Jude Bellingham, has been grabbing all the attention this season. However, Vinicius Jr. hasn’t performed as well as Madrid fans had hoped. He has scored only two goals and provided one assist in nine La Liga appearances, which is below his usual standard.
In the recent game against Rayo Vallecano, Vini missed a key opportunity and was quiet. Real Madrid had just one chance in the first 45 minutes, which has fans wondering when their No. 7 will shine.
A draw in the game maintains their second place in La Liga. While league leaders Girona are two points ahead of Madrid with 31, third-place Barcelona closely trailing by just two points.
What do fans think of Vinicius Jr.’s recent performances?
Since taking the legendary No. 7 jersey worn by Cristiano Ronaldo, Vinicius Jr.’s recent run of form has made several questions about whether the player is ready to carry the weight of the jersey.
The player has had to deal with huge amounts of criticism since joining Madrid in 2018 with many labelling him the heir to Neymar. However, his recent run of games has caused him to victim of mockery with one fan on ‘X’ calling him a ‘drunk Neymar’. Others were also quick to point out that Barcelona’s Ferran Torres has more goals than the Brazilian star.
Though just 23, Vinicius faces tough Madrid fans who criticize even stars like Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo for poor performances. He aims for a better second half of the season when Real Madrid hosts S.C. Braga at Santiago Bernabéu in the UEFA Champions League.
