The tenure of Braithwaite at Camp Nou had ended nearly two years early. The forward is anticipated to sign with Espanyol very soon. Braithwaite was asking Barça for €5m for his contract termination, but in the end Barcelona paid only €150.000.
When Luis Suárez sustained a season-ending injury two and a half years ago, Braithwaite was brought in as a last-minute replacement. However, Braithwaite never able to establish himself as a regular starter and has been completely dropped since Xavi Hernández took over as manager. For Barca, the striker made 58 appearances. The transition to Espanyol should be finished soon.
Due to the club’s injury issue, Braithwaite was granted special permission to leave Leganes and join Barcelona in February 2020. Later, he scored some significant goals, but recently, after allegedly refusing to accept a pay reduction, he was jeered by fans.

“FC Barcelona and the player Martin Braithwaite have reached an agreement for the release of the contract that the player had with the Club until the end of the 2023/24 season,” a club statement. “FC Barcelona publicly expresses its gratitude to Braithwaite for his commitment and dedication and wishes him the best of luck and success in the future.”
When the Dane’s new team travels to Bilbao to face Athletic Club on Sunday, it’s possible that he may make his Espanyol debut.
For the past two and a half years that Martin Braithwaite has been a member of Barcelona, he has scored 10 goals in 58 games. The Dane’s extensive experience playing at the top level of football, despite the fairly disappointing number, could be useful to Espanyol.
The former Leganes talent will challenge Raul de Tomas and Joselu at Espanyol, where the Dane hopes to revive his career after a disastrous stint at Barça.
Braithwaite was a player that Barça had been attempting to get rid of all summer, but despite many solid bids in July, the Dane remained. However, as the weeks passed and things between the athlete and the club got increasingly nasty, the two sides ultimately decided to separate ways.
