The president of Barcelona Joan Laporta intends to build a statue of Lionel Messi outside of Camp Nou. In recent days, a lot has been written about Lionel Messi and his prospective summer 2023 return to Barcelona.

A recent story from sources claims that president Joan Laporta has significant plans for the legendary former captain of Barcelona Lionel Messi, despite the mounting rumors of a comeback. On Wednesday, it was claimed that Laporta had made a commitment to Messi that whenever his contract with PSG expired, he would bring him back to Barcelona.

The article from La Vanguardia indicates that Laporta is bent on patching things up with Messi following how his leave from the club was handled last summer. To that purpose, contacts have already taken place between the two sides to heal relations.

Laporta apparently chose to erect a statue of the former Barcelona captain outside the team’s stadium as a way of paying appreciation to everything Messi has done for the club over the previous 20 years. Additionally, the club president wants a tribute game to be played in honour of the legendary Barça player. He thinks it won’t be enough, though, and would like to see Messi wear a Blaugrana jersey once more.
