Ex-Manchester United forward, Mason Greenwood might have found new suitors in the Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, who are rumored to have kept an eye on the Englishman’s performance at Getafe. Exiled by the Red Devils after his arrest in January 2022, he later moved to Getafe on loan and has been performing impressively since then.

The 22-year-old forward faced allegations of attempted r*pe and assault in January 2022, which led to his suspension by Manchester United. Although the charges were dropped in early 2023, his relationship with the club soured as they barred him from playing. Since joining Getafe on loan in July 2023, he has thrived in La Liga, securing 5 goals and 4 assists in 15 appearances. The possibility of United reinstating the youngster whose contract runs until 2025, seems seems unlikely due to their strained relations.

Some of the most prominent clubs in La Liga like Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid, along with Bayern Munich, have been closely observing the performances of the English talent, who rose to fame during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons at Manchester United. Should he move, Getafe, due to the loan agreement terms, would receive 20% of any transfer fee as compensation for their role in his development. Barcelona boss Xavi is particularly keen on recruiting the 22-year-old winger to address the team’s striking concerns.

Atletico Madrid started strong with Griezmann scoring first, but Borja Mayoral leveled the game. Then, Alvaro Morata and Griezmann scored again, making it 3-1. Getafe fought back, getting goals from Oscar Rodriguez and Mayoral, ending in a 3-3 draw.

Griezmann praised Greenwood for causing problems and consistently attacking from the right. The Englishman’s La Liga performances this season have helped restore his reputation, at least amongst the Getafe fanbase.
