Barcelona star, Gavi is known for his commitment to play for the badge. This, however, comes at a price as many have criticised the youngster for putting himself in dangerous situations which could result in severe head trauma to the player.
“Sometimes I watch the game again, and I say to myself: ‘Damn, why did I do that?” said Gavi recalling his dangerous style of play. Barcelona fans have lauded the player’s commitment to winning the ball giving his all for the team. However, neutrals and rivals have shown their concern for the young player’s style of play. In a game against Athletic Club, Gavi was pictured slide-tacking towards the ball head-first. Carles Puyol appreciated the youngster’s actions as to him it showed the player was giving it all for the badge.
“My mother suffers more than me, she always tells me not to fight and she’s very scared,” Gavi stated. This sentiment is shared by several others online who have commented, “He is risking getting serious damage done to his head, he needs to stop.” To this, Gavi simply replied, “In the end, it’s football.”
Gavi has publicly stated that his dream is to win the Champions League with Barcelona, a chance he will get as the club from Catalonia face FC Porto in the 2nd week of the UEFA Champions League.
Gavi, A La Masia product
Gavi joined FC Barcelona from Real Betis at the age of 11. Since then the player has fallen in love with the club and has showcased it several times on the pitch. Making his debut in 2021, the player made over 34 appearances in La Liga in his debut season becoming an instant favorite of Barcelona manager, Xavi. “The Barça side featuring Xavi, Iniesta and others was the best ever and I was and always will be a Barça fan from that moment,” spoke Gavi praising the ex-player who is now his manager.
The 19-year-old now seems to be following in his footsteps as the player has already made over 100 appearances for the Blaugrana at a young age. Barcelona fans also have already taken a liking to the player as many have stated that his will to play for the badge is second to none. Gavi gives his all every game and is not afraid to get stuck into physical challenges or take on defenders if required.
The Barcelona way of playing football is always to be prepared to receive the ball. A philosophy that requires both technical ability and confidence, Gavi’s composure has helped him live and breathe the Barcelona way.
