Barcelona v Real Madrid Femeni: Who has won more Champions League?
Barcelona have dominated Real Madrid in women's football.
El Clasico has a deep resonance in Spanish football, with bragging rights and success at stake. The rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid is one of the best-known in world football, with the iconic clash in many ways representing more than a mere sporting rivalry. Bragging rights are always at stake when the two teams meet, with El Clasico resonating deeply in Spain.
Despite the recent creation of the Madrid team, the significant investment in their section has made the whites fight for everything, while on the other side are the Blaugranas, established as one of the best teams on the planet. Barcelona is going invincible this season winning every single match as they did the previous year.
The two teams have naturally met in the Primera Division Femenina, but have also collided in the Supercopa Femenina and, in 2021-22, they faced off in the Women’s Champions League. Ironically, both men’s and women’s Barcelona teams are dominating the league by a huge margin although the women’s squad has a larger proportion of points.
Barcelona Femeni
Domestically, Barcelona Femení has won a record 18 trophies: seven Primera División, nine Copas de la Reina, and two Spanish Supercups titles, as well as being the record holder for all those competitions, converting it the most successful club in Spanish women’s football. Since the club’s professionalization in 2015, Barcelona has become Spain’s most successful team in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
They were the first Spanish club to reach a quarterfinal of the Champions League, the first to reach a semifinal of the Champions League, the first to make it to a Champions League Final, and the first to win it, which they did in 2021. By winning the Champions League, FC Barcelona became the first club to win a Champions League title for both its men’s and women’s footballing sections and they became the first Spanish women’s team to complete a continental treble by winning the 2020–21 Copa de la Reina.
Real Madrid Femeni
Real Madrid Femini was founded in 2020 so the club does not boast a significant amount of achievements when compared to their rivals. However, investments within the squad have made them capable of challenging the Catalan Giants for silverware. They currently sit 2nd in the Primera Division. Caroline Weir is their top player this season being one of the top scorers and top assist providers this season.
Barcelona v Real Madrid Femeni: Head-to-Head and Domestic Trophies
Barcelona has the upper hand on Real Madrid when it comes to head-to-head results between the women’s sides, with the Catalan outfit winning all of their Clasico encounters to date since 2020. Firmly established as a force in women’s football in Spain, Barcelona might be said to enjoy an advantage over their Clasico counterparts, who was only formally established in 2020, having merged with CD Tacon.
Barcelona has won many more trophies than Real Madrid in women’s football. However, the lop-sided nature of the two trophy cabinets is down to the fact that Real’s women’s team was only officially founded in 2020, with their first full season coming in 2020-21. Barcelona have won a record seven league titles and they also hold the record for the Copa de la Reina, which they have won on eight occasions.
Barcelona v Real Madrid Femeni: Who has won more Champions League?
Barca has also enjoyed continental success, lifting the Champions League once, in 2020-21. Real Madrid has zero trophies to their name given the fact they were formed recently. Despite only embarking on their first season in 2020-21, Madrid did manage a second-place finish in the league in their maiden campaign, though they were 25 points behind the Blaugrana on that occasion. It will take some time before Madrid can reset the balance in the women’s Clasico, but it is a challenge the capital club no doubt relishes.
