Barcelona wants Mohamed Salah to run down his contract and join the Catalan club in 2023: Reports

Barcelona have told Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah that they will make a move for him next summer should the Egyptian superstar not sign a new deal with the Reds.

This is according to the Mirror, who reported that it is believed the Barcelona factor is a major reason behind the forward stalling on agreeing to a new deal with Liverpool, after informing close friends a few months ago that he was ready to extend his stay on Merseyside.

Salah has already confirmed that he will be staying at Liverpool next season during a press conference before the Champions League final, reported by Sky Sports, but beyond that is a serious worry for the Reds and Fabrizio Romano has stated that nothing has changed with regards to the 29-year-old’s contract situation.

Barcelona are being forced to get inventive with their transfer business in order to try and reconstruct their team at the same time as alleviating the financial crisis at the club.

One of these strategies is to seek out deals for free agents and those with their contracts expiring. It appears that Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen will become a part of that plan this summer, but Barcelona are already setting its sights on next summer.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah finishes his contract in 2023 and Barcelona have promised that they will make an offer for him if he is to arrive on a free next summer. If they were able to bring in Salah, it would represent a major coup for a cash-strapped Barcelona to pinch away a star from one of the best teams in the world.

Mohamed Salah recently reflected back on Champions League Final loss to Real Madrid

Mohamed Salah had spoken out for the first time since Liverpool were defeated by Real Madrid in the Champions League final. Salah took to Twitter on Thursday to say part of him “wishes” next season “starts again tomorrow” following the club’s Champions League final defeat.

“I cannot express in words how much we wanted to bring that trophy back to Liverpool but in the end we couldn’t,” Salah wrote on social media. “I cannot thank the fans enough for your support. It has been a very long season but a part of me wishes the next one starts again tomorrow.”

Salah also wrote on Twitter to say whilst he is honoured by his personal awards, he would give them all up to replay the UCL final. ‘Being recognised by the fans and by the sports journalists in the same season is something special that I will never forget. I would however give all those personal awards up for a chance at replaying that final, but that is not how football works,’ Salah wrote.
