After suffering a heavy ankle injury in training, Jose Gaya is to miss, what would have been his first world cup as well. Seizing this opportunity, Balde will have a chance to cement his position as Spanish veteran Jordi Alba’s successor for both club and country.

The player and manager have received a lot of comments about this selection over choosing players like Cucurella. The La Masia product was playing for Barca’s second team just a year ago. What a major season for the 19-year-old.
