The Golden Boy award, given yearly to the best player under the age of 21 based at a European club, has been awarded to Barcelona midfielder Gavi. The 18-year-old had a significant effect in his first season with Barcelona’s first team and frequently represented Spain.
Gavi, who defeated Jamal Musiala, Jude Bellingham, and Eduardo Camavinga in the final four, is the second consecutive Barcelona player to win the award after Pedri did so in 2021. He joins a distinguished group of previous champions that also includes Wayne Rooney, Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, Paul Pogba, Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero, and Lionel Messi.
The Golden Player award went to Karim Benzema, and the Best European President trophy went to Florentino Perez, the president of Real Madrid. Paolo Maldini of AC Milan took up the prize for Best European Director, while Carlo Ancelotti and Jose Mourinho shared the honour of Best Manager.
Barcelona’s Alexia Putellas won the Golden Female Player and Wolfsburg’s Jule Brand was named Golden Girl. Four players from Barcelona were among the 20 finalists for the award, including Gavi, Pedri, Ansu Fati, and Nico Gonzalez, who is now on loan at Valencia.

Following in the footsteps of his Barcelona teammate Pedri, Gavi has now added the Golden Boy accolade to the Kopa Trophy he earned earlier this week. After Lionel Messi in 2005 and Pedri in 2021, Gavi is the third player to receive the Golden Boy award while playing for Barcelona.
The teenager has been a revelation since making the Blaugrana’s first team, making 34 appearances in LaLiga last season while scoring twice and providing out six assists. After becoming the youngest player to appear for La Roja’s senior team in October of last year, the diminutive midfielder has now earned 12 caps for Spain thanks to his current form.
