Swifties show just why they are considered a cult-like fanbase as they hinder the Barcelona youngster's chances at Golden Boy.

The Taylor Swift virus seems to be hitting global sport ultimately. With Swifties not knowing about football or its influence, their agenda around creating a god-like image of the pop stars has now started boycotting Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde. In a recent interview, he confessed to not liking her music like many others. Still, like her relationships, it’s hard for her deluded fans to accept a differentiating opinion from a big personality.
Balde said, “Do I like Taylor Swift? No, I don’t like her music,” and it drove the internet controversy. In response, the Swifties have now started voting for Jude Bellingham out of spite, who leads the race miles ahead of the La Masia star. One would argue that Bellingham is still a reputed entry who deserves to win the accolade. However, fans believe that the involvement of people who don’t even understand the sport or know the players should not be entertained.
The Golden Boy Award, initiated by Italian newspaper Tuttosport in 2003, honors the top footballer under 21 in a major European league. Past winners include stars like Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, and Wayne Rooney. Taylor Swift’s fans entering the football award scene have stirred debate on the impact of pop culture on sports. It is an unusual occurrence given the typical separation of these domains.
This year’s Golden Boy award has seen Taylor Swift’s dedicated fans trying to prevent Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde from winning. This is an unusual turn, given their devotion to the Grammy-winning artist. Meanwhile, Jude Bellingham delivered an impressive performance at Real Madrid, with five goals and one assist. In just four games since his move from Borussia Dortmund, he has put himself in the lead for the Golden Boy award.
Joan Laporta hails new signing Joao Felix above Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe
SPORT said that FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta has sparked a heated debate. He seemingly favors Joao Felix over football sensations Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. Felix arrived at FC Barcelona on loan after a lengthy pursuit by the club during the window. Earlier this summer, Felix expressed his fervent desire to play for Barcelona, and Laporta had previously publicly praised his playing style.
Behind closed doors, Laporta went a step further. He candidly revealed to SPORT journalist David Bernabeu that if given the choice between Mbappe and Haaland, he would choose Joao Felix. While this doesn’t definitively assert Felix’s superiority, it strongly suggests Laporta’s preference for the newly minted Barca number 14.
Laporta’s stance considers Barcelona’s well-documented financial constraints, making the signings of Mbappe and Haaland financially unviable. Joao Felix represents a more pragmatic and cost-effective option for the club. He aligns with the need for immediate impact amid their economic struggles. The football world eagerly awaits to see whether Felix can revive his career at Barcelona. They will also be excited to see him justify Laporta’s faith.
