Bayern Munich have not been able to emulate their dominant selves which fans have been witness to for the past several seasons. The Bundesliga giants are surprisingly not the ‘best’ team in Germany nor in the Champions League. A poor showing against Lazio in the Round of 16 of the UCL ended in Thomas Tuchel unleashing his anger on his players, in a furious rant.

Bayern are playing second fiddle to Bayer Leverkusen in the league this season while the club’s form in the Champions League also calls for worry. The 1-0 loss to Lazio puts them at a disadvantage going into the second leg and elimination would virtually end Thomas Tuchel’s reign at the club. In spite of showing early promise, Tuchel has not managed to inspire his team to the projected levels.

Following the loss at the Stadio Olimpico, the manager spared no player as he said:

You're not as good as I thought, then I'll just have to adapt to your level.

The Bayern Munich squad consists of the likes of Thomas Muller, Manuel Neuer, Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane. The €100 million man was a shadow of his brilliant self as he managed to produce zero shots on goal.

Thomas Tuchel likely to get the sack at Bayern, and what it means for Liverpool

Former Chelsea boss and Champions League winner Thomas Tuchel joined Bayern with high hopes of recreating his success in Germany. However, a season-and-a-half into his tenure as boss, the initial glamour has all but worn off. Bayern Munich find themselves 5 points away from the top of Bundesliga in second place and hanging on a one-goal deficit going into the second leg of the RO16 of the UCL.

This points to Thomas Tuchel and the bleak possibility of him continuing in the dugout. Bayern’s biggest rivals this season are Bayer Leverkusen, led by former Bayern midfielder Xabi Alonso. His side are 5 points ahead of Bayern and did so by ‘schooling’ the defending champions 3 goals to none. His sacking may come even sooner if the club fail to catch up to Leverkusen or drop out of Europe entirely.

A trophyless season would mean that Tuchel’s season would be labelled a failure as per the clubs’ high standards. With a 1-0 loss against Lazio in the first leg, everything is at stake for Tuchel and his men in the second leg. In other news, Bayern will look to bring in Xabi Alonso instead of Tuchel and with the former’s commendable success to ‘reform’ Leverkusen, comes off as no surprise. This puts Liverpool‘s plan to bring in Alonso in jeopardy. The Reds are in need of a worthy successor to take over from Jurgen Klopp, who announced that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season.
