Bayern Munich’s CEO Oliver Kahn refuses to make a U-turn on Cristiano Ronaldo’s move, hinting the Portuguese could join the German club

Cristiano Ronaldo

Bayern Munich was one of the first clubs approached by Jorge Mendes for the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo. The German giants were set to lose Robert Lewandowski and needed a new striker to replace the pole.

Cristiano Ronaldo checks all the boxes for Bayern Munich except for his age. For the last 9 years, Lewandowski was the main striker for Bayern scoring over 40 goals/season. Something only Ronaldo among a few others could emulate for the club.

However, the club had earlier stated that they are not interested in signing the Manchester United player despite his intentions to leave England. Until recently, when Oliver Kahn openly said that the former Juventus player was also in Bayern’s transfer plans.

Cristiano Ronaldo could move to Bayern as Lewandowski’s replacement

Speaking in the interview as reported by Manuel Veth to discuss Bayern Munich’s tour and transfer plans, Oliver Kahn was asked, “What is the latest on further transfers? How about Laimer and Tel…”

Oliver Kahn jokingly said, “Cristiano Ronaldo too, right!?” Kahn added: “We’ll have more talks, we’ll see. Transfer window is open for some time”.

The Bavarian giants recently broke their bank to sign 22-year-old Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus for an enormous fee of €80 million. Hence, they wouldn’t want to spend so much on another striker as well.

Ronaldo, being 37 could be available for cheap despite Manchester United being reluctant to sell the player. Hence, Ronaldo would make perfect short-term sense for the Bavarians. Moreover, even at such an age, he’d be the perfect replacement for Robert Lewandowski in the Bayern lineup.

Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly also has offers from Atletico Madrid who are seriously considering a move for the former Real Madrid player. Hence, the 2020 treble winners must act quickly if they want to make a move for the player.
