“Have to deliver a truck full of Swiss chocolates,” Bayern Munich’s Yann Sommer praises Matthijs de Ligt’s crucial goal line save against PSG
The Swiss kepper had high praises for de Ligt as the defender made a crucial goal line clearance from a guaranteed goal
Bayern Munich’s stand-in goalkeeper, Yann Sommer, recently lauded Dutch international Matthijs de Ligt after he bailed out the Swiss keeper after a woeful mistake which gave PSG a golden opportunity to cut the deficit in the aggregate score but was denied by a heroic goal-line clearance from the centreback. The keeper was reported to have joked about giving him Swiss chocolate for saving the game.
Yann Sommer, on De Ligt’s block, “I can’t thank him enough. To congratulate him, I will have to deliver a truck full of Swiss chocolates to his home.” de Ligt was transferred to Bayern Munich after a mediocre spell at Juventus and not quite living up to the expectations. However, he quickly established himself as one of the undisputable starters in the backline after top-class performances from the former Ajax captain.
Sommer was brought in from Monchengladbach as a replacement for Manuel Neuer, who is currently sidelined due to injury. He quickly adjusted to the club with his consistent performances and the defensive duo of de Ligt and Upamecano protecting the backline. The Bavarians have conceded the least goals in the German top flight this season thanks to their combined performances.
Bayern is scheduled to face Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday and will hope to keep the momentum going after a streak of three consecutive wins in a row including the Champions League game against PSG which they won 3-0 on aggregate and qualifies them for the quarterfinals of the competition.
Joao Cancelo enduring nightmare after replication of Manchester City crisis amid lack of game time
Joao Cancelo is still not getting the game time he deserves at Bayern Munich after leaving Man City on a loan deal due to disputes with his game minutes since his return from the World Cup and Guardiola preferring the youngster Rico Lewis. The Portuguese international left the Blues for the Bavarians in exchange for more game time.
However, things have not gone according to plan for the Premier League winner. While he did create a good impression in the start after providing two assists in seven appearances, he has since been out of favor by head coach Julian Nagelsmann. According to the coach, he prefers the Croatian international Josip Stanišić due to his better defensive ability which suits the former Leipzig manager’s style of play.
It is fair to say that karma has hit back at the 28-year-old after he left an in-form Man City to join the Bundesliga in hopes of more game time but the club has benched the loanee and is currently in talks of canceling his loan deal.
