“Got himself a 13m view video”- Ben Foster gets ‘Youtube shouts’ on social media after helping Ryan Reynold’s Wrexham reach top of National League
The 40-year-old came back from retirement to join Wrexham.
Former Premier League custodian goalkeeper Ben Foster saved a crucial penalty in the 97th minute of Wrexham’s 3-2 win over National League rivals Notts County. As Foster denied Cedwyn Scott on the spot, Ryan Reynolds was present, causing chaos at the Racecourse Ground.
Reynolds and co-owner Rob McElhenney were among the ecstatic home fans. They were seen punching the air in joy as Foster secured a crucial victory. With a game in hand, Wrexham are three points ahead of County. They are on the verge of regaining their place in the Football League for the first time since being relegated from League Two in 2008.
Former Tottenham youngster John Bostock gave the visitors the lead just before halftime with a fantastic free-kick. It was his first senior goal since September 2016, when he scored for Lens in France. However, Paul Mullin equalized immediately after the restart before a flurry of three goals in nine minutes saw the game swing back and forth. Wrexham took the lead through Jacob Mendy, briefly equalized by Kyle Cameron. Elliott Lee secured the crucial three points with 12 minutes remaining in regulation.
There was still time for more drama and a chance for Notts County to salvage a point, but Foster produced a magnificent sprawling save to his right from Scott’s penalty after a handball. Wrexham’s final three games see them travel to fifth-placed Barnet before hosting relegation-threatened Yeovil and sixth-placed Boreham Wood. Their last match is away at Torquay, who occupy the final relegation spot in the Vanarama National League.
