Untimely and unexpected errors always give football fans a good laugh. Even more so when goalkeepers fail to do their job or make a mess of what they’re supposed to do. A game in the EFL Championship on Saturday featuring Bristol City against Watford has the internet in splits after Watford keeper Ben Hamer‘s antics leading up to Bristol City’s goal.

Championship clubs Watford and Bristol City faced off in a nervy encounter at Ashton Gate on Saturday. The visitors took the lead from the spot through Tom Dele-Bashiru in the early minutes of the game. However, the home side pulled level through Scott Twine within 12 minutes. The initial shot made by Tommy Conway was brilliantly kept out by Watford keeper Ben Hamer.

The follow-up, however, went in and saw the visitors’ keeper throw himself at the header. However, his effort came much later, well after the ball had gone in goal. As Twine jumped over his marker to head the rebound home, Hamer was nowhere close to covering his goal.

The Englishman launched himself at the ball nonetheless, with replays showing his effort coming well after the ball had crossed the line.

Ben Hamer has become a ‘meme’ after his hilariously late reaction to Scott Twine’s header on Saturday. The English goalkeeper made an exaggerated dive to reach Twine’s header but was more than ‘late’ to do so. A fan commented that Hamer’s dive reminded him of playing with 300 ping on FUT champs. Others mocked him saying that he was experiencing Wi-Fi problems during the game.

Many laughed at the same claiming that he was trying too much to cover up match-fixing. Certain followers compared him to a Pro Clubs keeper. Andre Onana and Aaron Ramsdale also caught strays in the comment section, after fans compared his blunder to that of the Premier League keepers. Many were surprised as to how he could have made such a hilarious error after making a sublime save to keep out the initial strike.
