Former Manchester City left-back Benjamin Mendy has made his formal return to football. Mendy had to take a sudden break from football as his contract was terminated, and he was in jail for r*pe allegations. However, in a landmark case, he was cleared of s*xual assault and returned to football in no time.

Mendy is also apparently suing Manchester City for banishing him when he faced adversity. However, any significant club worldwide distances itself from its players when these players are involved in such inhumane practices. His inconsistency on the pitch also didn’t help him build a lot of trust with the club. Five days after his acquittal, he signed a two-year deal with the Ligue 1 side Lorient. This can also be seen as a milestone in his career.

His last appearance in professional football came in August 2021. Le’Equipe reports that he is in the matchday squad for the club’s upcoming game against his former club, Monaco. Mendy’s incredible Champions League run for Monaco is said to have been the reason behind Manchester City buying him.

His career has since taken a rollercoaster hit. Mendy has always been in the news from Marseille to Monaco and Manchester for various reasons. As a player, he earned recognition for his pace as a left-wing back and his proficiency in delivering numerous crosses into the box. His rigorous training in the past two months and return to form and fitness have raised excitement for the club’s supporters to witness a changed player for their club.

In their recent match-up against West Ham at the London Stadium, City emerged victorious in a 3-1 game after returning from 0-1 down. Bernardo Silva and Julian Alvares showcased a great partnership throughout the game, with the Portuguese giving City the lead in the second half. The game was also momentous as their new Signing, Jeremy Doku, began his City account with a goal in just his second game for the club, cutting inside stunningly from the left wing.

As Jack Grealish recovers from a hamstring injury, Doku did not miss the opportunity to rise up to the occasion. City have certainly got another star in the making at their wings. With a strategy to constantly invest their squad depth to keep an intra-competitive structure at the club, they certainly have dwelled in the mindset of being the best in the world. The team has been playing like champions, with players like Doku, Rodri, and the now Chelsea signing Cole Palmer rising up recently in challenging situations.
