Sky Sports football pundit Gary Neville was praised for his commentary during the Carabao Cup final between Chelsea and Liverpool. The former Man Utd star labeled the Blues as a ‘billion-pound failure’ upon its EFL Cup final defeat.

Virgil van Dijk scored an extra-time winner, to guide Liverpool to their 10th League Cup victory against rivals Chelsea. The Carabao Cup win could have eased the Blues’ struggles, who are having a difficult time this season, and currently placed 11th on the EPL table. The occasion marks the eighth major title for Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp. Meanwhile, Chelsea recorded their sixth consecutive domestic cup final loss, adding to their season worries.

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville, famous for his humorous remarks, branded Chelsea as “blue billion-pound bottle jobs” after their loss in the final. Neville slammed Chelsea for losing to a young Liverpool side. The Reds line-up, without Mohamed Salah, Szoboszlai, Alisson, and others, featured many academy youngsters. Moreover, Neville also pointed out the difference between the average ages of both the squads, claiming that the Blues still had a lot of work to do.

Pochettino responded to Neville’s criticism by stating that while he had not heard them directly, but believed that the average age of the two teams was similar. Moreover, he exclaimed that he respected Neville’s opinion, but disagreed with the comparison, emphasizing the differences in team dynamics. Additionally, he expressed pride in his young team’s efforts and reiterated his belief in its future.

The Blues are currently languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table, 17 points behind the top four. Furthermore, there have been calls from all sides for the Argentinean manager to be sacked from the club.
