Brighton Manager, Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed player, Solly March will be out with a knee injury for an extended period of time following their defeat at the Etihad to Manchester City this weekend.
The incident occurred at stoppage time when Solly March was tussling for the ball against Bernado Silva before falling to the ground, covering his face in the process. Suspecting a knee injury, the player remained on the floor for a lengthy period of time before finally being stretchered off by the medical staff.
Much to the dismay of his manager, De Zerbi spoke in the post-match conference about the incident, confirming Solly March will be out of the squad for a long time. He further said:
We are playing a different sport this season and we are losing too many players. Need more players. We are not used to playing in European competition. So have to find a solution to play and compete in every competition.
Currently 7th in the Premier League, Brighton’s next league games are against lower-ranked teams, and the manager hopes to get 9 points before the International break.
Brighton & Hove Albion is facing Ajax in the Europa League this week. Although Ajax might seem strong, they are 17th in the Dutch league, making this a good time for Brighton to play against them.
How will Brighton fare without Solly March this season?
Before his injury against Man City, the right-winger born in Eastbourne missed only two games for Brighton this season. Their game against Manchester United at Old Trafford – where the player did not even make the bench – and the following game against Bournemouth where the player was an unused sub.
While the sample size of two games remains small, Brighton has not lost a game where the player was un-involved on the pitch. The Seagulls coasted past Manchester United in their 3-1 win against the Red Devils and also won their next Premier League fixture against Bournemouth after having a few scary moments. De Zerbi received a lot of praise for having the ability to rotate his team efficiently to not affect the team’s performance.
Now with March confirmed to be out for a long time with his return unknown, Roberto De Zerbi will be forced to showcase his prowess as a rotational manager once again as they face an easy set of games before their fixture against Chelsea on the 3rd of December.
