Bruno Fernandes led Manchester United to victory against Fulham on Saturday. He scored the winning goal in the dying minutes with a fantastic finish, securing a win after two losses. But it is his Instagram post following his winner against the Cottagers that is doing rounds on social media just for the former United goalie’s reply.
Former United goalkeeper David de Gea made headlines with his comment on Fernandes’ Instagram post. This came after United legend Roy Keane criticized Fernandes for his captaincy and on-field behavior, suggesting he should be stripped of the captain’s armband.
David de Gea’s comment read:
You are not the right captain?
It did not take long for the fans to realize that it was a sly dig aimed at Roy Keane. Many further deciphered his message saying that De Gea is most likely trying to defend the current captain and his friend, Fernandes, asking for the critics to keep their mouths shut.
Bruno has been one of United’s most consistent performers. However, his attitude and actions on the pitch divide fans’ opinions regarding the player’s captaincy.
Manchester United bounce back after back-to-back home defeats
Erik ten Hag and Manchester United are in a tough spot after consecutive home defeats. A humiliating 3-0 loss against rivals Manchester City, and an embarrassing 3-goal defeat to Newcastle United saw the Red Devils come under serious pressure. Going into the game against Fulham, Manchester United were desperate for the three points.
The club’s prayers were answered with a late goal from Bruno Fernandes, ending a three-game winless streak. Fulham had more chances, with Willian and João Palhinha threatening to score. But thanks to saves by Andre Onana and a key interception by Diogo Dalot, the score remained 0-0.
In the 91st minute, United secured victory. Bruno Fernandes capitalized on a Fulham mistake, sending a precise shot into the bottom right corner past Bernd Leno. This win kept United in the league’s top half with 18 points from 11 games.
