Bruno Fernandes has spoken out since being given the captainship for Manchester United. He recently informed Manchester Evening News that no one knew who would be the next captain, as manager Erik Ten Hag kept silent. Fernandes replaces Harry Maguire as captain.

Ten Hag announced Fernandes’ captainship in front of the whole squad. The United team was aware of Maguire’s demotion as captain but did not know who would take his place. “He wanted to do it in front of everyone. Everyone knew already about the situation with H, but no one knew who would be the next captain.” Fernandes said.

Fernandes also explained that the manager likes to keep the club’s details internally. Thus, Ten Hag decided to inform the players before disclosing it to the media. This is a stark difference between him and his predecessor, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Solskjaer was sacked by the club in 2021.

Solskjaer announced his captain in front of the media in 2020. Even then, the person to be reported as captain was Bruno Fernandes. He looked slightly surprised at this decision as internal communication was not established. Fernandes is no rookie to captaining United, as he has already done that 59 times. Now that he has been named the official captain, and would like to take United to winning titles.

Bruno Fernandes reveals former captain Harry Maguire’s reaction to him being handed captaincy

Bruno Fernandes will lead Manchester United’s first team next season. The Portuguese replaced Harry Maguire as the leader of the club. Maguire was sacked as captain by current manager Erik Ten Hag this preseason.

Fernandes has now revealed Maguire’s reaction to him being handed the armband. “He was great with me, and he came and said congratulations to me, and I am happy about that because we have always had a good relationship.” Maguire accepted the decision graciously and congratulated his successor.

Maguire’s future at the club looks uncertain. The center-back has fallen from the starting eleven at Old Trafford. Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane have replaced him in the starting lineup. Maguire is looking for minutes on the pitch in an attempt to revive his career and is looking at options, including leaving United.
