Amidst being eliminated from the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Cameroon created history by overpowering Brazil in the FIFA World Cup for the first time. This triumph also ended the five-time World Champions’ 17-match undefeated streak in group matches. A run that began on June 23, 1998, when they were defeated by Norway.

Cameroon’s victory, credits to Aboubakar’s ideal header, also finished Brazil’s seven-match World Cup winning spree against African teams. The Indomitable Lions became the only African team to win against the five-time defending champions. The audience applauded went crazy when Vincent Aboubakar netted in added time. The player’s joy, however, was short-lived, as he was dismissed for taking off his jersey after already being booked.

In addition, they were the first country to register a shot versus South American powerhouses in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Vincent Aboubakar became the third African player to net a World Cup goal over Brazil, following Chealse Legend Didier Drogba in 2010 and Liverpool defender Joel Matip in 2014.
