Carlo Ancelotti has done a marvelous job at Real Madrid ever since he returned in 2021. In the previous season, Real Madrid missed out on La Liga, got knocked out of the Round of 16 in the Champions League, and had their first trophyless season since 2009/10.
In his first season, he won the La Liga and the Champions League, the very next season, they won the Copa del Rey while being Champions League semi-finalists. When he joined in 2021, he signed a 3-year contract and as soon as he entered his final year, rumors of his departure began to float on the Internet.
Many news outlets linked him with a move to Brazil, claiming he was ready to become the National Team’s new Head coach. But now, he has signed a 2-year contract extension, which will keep him at Madrid till 2026.
As of now, Real Madrid sit at the top of the La Liga points table, tied on points with Girona. After missing out on the league in 2023, they will aim to be Spanish champions yet again. They have been drawn to RB Leipzig in the Champions League Round of 16.
Key players return from injury, already begun training
Real Madrid went through a small injury crisis at the start of the season. New signing Adra Guler and the Brazilian star boy Vinicius Jr. suffered a tear on their thigh, Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao tore their ACL, and Eduardo Camavinga tore a ligament.
Los Blancos now have some good news as Vinicius, Guler, and Camavinga are back to training. With Real Madrid not playing a single match till 3rd January, these players are expected to be ready to play in their upcoming fixtures.
With the January transfer window coming up, Real Madrid have already set their sights on a few players. One of them is Mathias de Ligt, who doesn’t start ahead of Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae.
If Thomas Tuchel is fine with losing a player, Madrid could go for the center-back as soon as January. They are also linked with Benfica wonderkids, midfielder Joao Neves, and defender Antonio Silva.
Madrid face Mallorca on 3rd January, their first match of the year. Just a week later, they will face Atletico Madrid in the semifinals of the Supercopa de Espana.
