Casemiro won’t be eligible to play against Liverpool even if Manchester United completes his €70 million swoop: Reports

Casemiro and Erik ten Hag

Casemiro’s registration by Manchester United has run out, preventing him from competing against Liverpool on Monday night. The clubs have agreed on a £60 million transfer fee for the 30-year-old Brazilian stalwart, who is expected to join the Red Devils from Real Madrid.

However, he won’t make his United debut against their fierce rivals because, according to Premier League regulations, players must register by Friday at noon in order to play in the top division the following weekend.

It transpires after Casemiro informed Carlo Ancelotti’s staff on Wednesday night that he wanted to leave Real Madrid after nine illustrious years in the Spanish capital. Casemiro is yet to complete his medical and also needs to obtain a work permit in order to play in England. Casemiro is only scheduled to have his medical this weekend before signing a four-year contract, so it will be a big ask of United to make sure he can play at Old Trafford.

With a group of officials having been to the Spanish capital earlier this week to begin advanced negotiations over the move, United is hoping that a deal would be finalized by Monday – ahead of next Saturday’s game against Southampton.

Casemiro told Carlo Ancelotti on Friday that he wanted to pursue a new challenge away from Real Madrid. Prior to their match against Celta Vigo on Saturday, the midfielder attended Real Madrid’s practice on Friday. Erik ten Hag won’t be able to call upon Casemiro until United’s Premier League game against Southampton on August 27 if he signs with United.

Ten Hag is close to signing Casemiro from Real Madrid in a deal worth up to €70million after seeing his side ship a combined six goals against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford. The Brazil international has agreed on a four-year contract at Old Trafford in a deal negotiated by United’s football director, John Murtough.

The contract offer sent to Casemiro contains an additional fifth year that may be exercised. The 30-year-old is already one of Real Madrid’s biggest earners, and even though United’s offer is nowhere like the double-your-money deal that has been floated in the Spanish media, Casemiro will still rank among the team’s highest earners—aside from Cristiano Ronaldo.
