WATCH: “Azpiliguire”- Cesar Azpilicueta gets murdered on social media after he concedes own goal leaving Chelsea behind Brentford
The Blues vulnerable to fifth successive defeat.
Chelsea go down 1-0 in the cruellest way against Brentford as Jensen’s corner deflected off Cesar Azpilicueta into the back of the net. The goal piled on the Blues’ misery as look down at another possible defeat. Frank Lampard’s side is closer to the relegation zone than to the top four despite spending more then the entire Europe combined in the Winter transfer window.
Kepa didn’t move a muscle and watched the ball find the back of his net. The Bees lead despite having no shots on target so far tonight. The first half was fairly quiet with both sides struggling to produce quality attacking moments with Chelsea having two chances.
Thiago Silva had the first chance to give Chelsea the lead after a cross from N’Golo Kante was easily saved by David Raya. Enzo Fernandez had his shot saved at the edge of the box after the Frenchman again laid a chance. The Argentine’s quick thinking almost gave the Blues a lead as he takes the freekick quickly but Sterling couldn’t connect and Raya catches comfortably.
Fans slam the Chelsea players after conceding the goal
Loud boos greeted the half-time whistle at Stamford Bridge. Cesar Azpilicueta’s own goal has them on track for a fifth successive defeat. Not the finest of starts to the player’s return to Stamford Bridge after a long spell on the sidelines.
Frank Lampard needs to overturn the results and make changes in the second half if they are to avoid back-to-back defeats. N’Golo Kante and Enzo Fernandez have been the best performers of the lot but failed to result in a positive outcome. Chelsea boasting the better stats had zero outcomes. The Blues will hope for better in the second half.
