Real Madrid lifted a 14th European Cup / Champions League title on Saturday night in a game that will have been watched across the world. 

While figures for the 2022 Champions League final global viewership are not yet finalized, the 2021 final between Chelsea and Manchester City pulled in an estimated 700 million viewers, a remarkable figure given the two clubs in question play in the same national league.

On the other hand, The 2021 Super Bowl between the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals pulled in an estimated 112 million viewers, almost 600 million fewer than the 2021 Champions League final.

The Champions League final has generally averaged around 400 million viewers for the last five years with the 2021 Champions League Final between Chelsea and Manchester City being the most viewed event in the competition’s history with around 700 million viewers.

Super Bowl, on the other hand, had failed to break the 100-million mark for the last five years before the Super Bowl LVI. The 2015 face-off between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots had 114.4 million viewers, making it the most-watched Super Bowl in history in the US.

However, the figure above is only for viewers in the United States, which means when the global audiences are taken into account, it is estimated that 30-50 million more viewers watch the Super Bowl on streaming services or apps.

2022 Champions League winner i.e Real Madrid will receive $22.69 million for winning the final which takes their total earnings from the 2021-2022 Champions League competition to $89.32 million. The Champions League finalists of 2022 received a prize of $17.59 million simply for reaching the final two of the competition.

Each member of the Los Angeles Rams will take home a bonus of $300,000 for winning the Super Bowl. The Bengals, meanwhile, will each receive $225,000 in total for their playoff victories and being on the losing side in the showpiece game.
