Real Madrid will host Liverpool in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16. Los Blancos have the upper hand as they thrashed the Reds 5-2 on aggregate in the reverse fixture at Anfield.
Real Madrid has been inconsistent for the past few matches. They are now Nine points off league leaders Barcelona, and 1-0 down in the first leg of the Copa Del Ray semi-finals. A comeback is looking highly unlikely in the Spanish top tier given their form. The Champions League is the only major silverware Madrid can expect to win.
The defending champions have a great record in the competition. Real Madrid is the only club to have won three consecutive titles in the Champions League twice, first in 1955-56, 1956–57, 1957–58, and second in 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18.

The two heavyweights have met each other 10 times and the Madrid outfit has won six and Liverpool three along with a draw. Liverpool has won the competition six times the most recent coming in the 2018/19 season while Los Blancos have won it 14 times which is the record for most UEFA trophies most recently in the 2021/22 season.
The Reds are yet to win a match against Madrid for the past decade despite reviving under Jurgen Klopp. They last met each other the previous season in the final of the competition where they lost 1-0 to Madrid.

The recent thrashing of Manchester United 7-0 by the Reds will encourage Jurgen Klopp to start the entire frontline during the match against the Devils adding a brace to their names and hope to overturn the result while Madrid will probably start with their strongest lineup despite their inconsistent performances.
Real Madrid’s predicted XI: Thibaut Courtois; Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger, Nacho Fernandez; Luka Modric, Aurelien Tchouameni, Toni Kroos; Fede Valverde, Karim Benzema, Vinicius Jr.
