Chelsea back in the race to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla after transfer talks with Manchester City end in a stalemate: Reports
Jules Kounde Chelsea
Chelsea has reportedly ended negotiations with Manchester City for the transfer of Nathan Ake after the two clubs fail to find a middle ground in the valuations of the Dutch defender, Nathan Ake
Manchester City is not willing to bring the price lower than what they paid for the defender back in 2020. Hence, Chelsea must cough up at least £41 million if they want to sign the 27-year-old from Ethiad.
As a result, Chelsea has turned their attention to the former target, Jules Kounde. The Frenchman had previously been tracked by the Blues but they felt Sevilla’s asking price of €70 million was too high.
Tottenham and Man City set to rival Chelsea for Jules Kounde’s signature
The Blues has already confirmed the signing of Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli a few days back. However, the club need another defensive rock to replace both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen who left the club for free this summer.
While Nathan Ake and Juventus’ Matthijs de Ligt were their first choice, the latter could move to Bayern Munich while the club feels, the former’s valuation is too high for a backup defender.
Hence, Sevilla’s Kounde is their best alternative. The player has made a good name for himself in Europe but Thomas Tuchel will have to compete with other Premier League clubs for his signature.
Manchester City will pursue the player only if Nathan Ake leaves while Tottenham has also targetted the 23-year-old. Those at Stamford Bridge have also issued interest in Paris Saint-Germain’s Presnel Kimpembe as an alternative to Kounde.
As of now, the situation could take a domino effect with one transfer triggering a series of transfers all over Europe. While Nathan Ake still is the first choice for Chelsea, they will have to meet Manchester City’s price to sign the player.
