Chelsea are eyeing a shock transfer move for out-of-favour Arsenal goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale. The England International has seen his first-team spot at the club taken over with manager Mikel Arteta preferring David Raya – who is on loan from Brentford – in goal.

According to sports journalist, Ben Jacobs, Chelsea is looking to take advantage of Arsenal’s current goalkeeper situation as Pochettino is currently looking for an upgrade on current goalkeeper, Robert Sánchez. The 25-year-old, Aaron Ramsdale played a crucial role for Arsenal last season as they missed out on the Premier League by five points to Manchester City. Since the arrival of David Raya however, Aaron Ramsdale has remained on the bench for Arsenal with Mikel Arteta preferring the Spanish goalkeeper over his last season’s no.1.

To attain Aaron Ramsdale’s signature, however, Chelsea will have to overcome several hurdles as Mikel Arteta could be unwilling to sell their player to a direct rival and also, the player could still be in the manager’s plans for later on in the season. Chelsea is also not the only club monitoring Aaron Ramsdale’s situation at Arsenal as Bayern Munich has also been keeping an eye on the Englishman whose contract runs out in 2026.

Aaron Ramsdale remains second-choice for both club and country

While Jordan Pickford’s spot as England’s No.1 remains certain, Aaron Ramsdale – with the arrival of David Raya – has found himself playing second fiddle for club and country this season with both Mikel Arteta and Gareth Southgate preferring other options over the 25-year-old.

Aaron Ramsdale has not played a game of football since Arsenal’s fixture against Brentford in the EFL Cup on the 27th of September. His last appearance for England came in the form of a friendly against Scotland early on in September. With a lack of first-team football looming over the player, Aaron Ramsdale revealed he was “hurting and suffering” due to his recent lack of minutes.

Ex-Manchester United goalkeeper, Peter Schmeichel was one of the first football pundits who spoke on the issue, bringing into focus, the detriment that can occur if a team has two no.1 goalkeepers. With Aaron Ramsdale’s situation at Arsenal becoming a topic of discussion every time David Raya is on the Starting XI sheet, fans are curious about how Arteta will deal with this situation for the rest of the season.
