On the night of 4th February, Wolverhampton Wanderers traveled to London to play Chelsea. Two points above the visitors, Chelsea needed to end the game with a win to break into the top 10. Maybe a win could turn things around for them and hopefully act like a catalyst to turn the tide. Instead, they conceded four goals.

Chelsea’s best performer, Cole Palmer, opened the scoring for the Blues as his great positioning got him a brilliant goal. Matheus Cunha didn’t take time to equalize though, getting the game level. The half looked like it would end 1-1, as Alex Diasi deflected a shot into the goal.

Cunha scored yet again in the 63rd minute, getting Wolves a much-deserved lead. He completed his hat-trick in the 82nd minute. He was fouled by Malo Gusto in the box and was given the ball for the spot kick. Thiago Silva did manage to get past Jose Sa in the 86th minute, but it made no difference.

Around the 64th minute of the game, the visiting fans decided to taunt the Chelsea team and fans. They started singing “You’re f*cking sh*t,” hoping to get under the nerves of the home fans. Instead, they joined along and said “We’re f*cking sh*t”!

Chelsea and their inability to get past 10th

For the majority of the past 15 months, Chelsea have been stuck at 10th place or below. The club has spent over £1 Billion in that period as well, with big-money signings like Endo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Wesley Fofana. Despite all these reinforcements, The Blues managed only three weeks at ninth before dropping down to 10th.

So far in the 2023/24 season, they have spent 10 game weeks stuck at 10th with no movement to the positions above looking even possible. The one time they got at 9th, league leaders Liverpool hammered them 4-1 to send them back to 10th. With this loss to Wolves, they now go down to 11th, just two points behind 9th place Newcastle United.

With this string of poor results, it looks like manager Mauricio Pochettino could face the sack. The Argentine has managed only nine wins out of 23 matches while managing a squad with a purchase value of over £1 Billion. He recently admitted it looked hard to ask for more time from the Chelsea board, especially with their poor form.
