Chelsea have suffered yet another major injury setback, with manager Frank Lampard revealing that left-back Ben Chilwell will most likely miss the rest of the season. The Englishman was injured in Chelsea’s triumph over Bournemouth last Saturday.

The left-back came off during the second half, and manager Frank Lampard confirmed after the game that he might miss Chelsea’s next four Premier League games. “With a hamstring at this stage of the season, you’d be worried [that he may miss] the remaining games,” Lampard said. The manager’s concerns look to have been realized, with the 44-year-old saying Chilwell’s situation is “a similar story” to Reece James and Mason Mount, who he revealed would be unavailable for the remainder of the season last month.

James suffered a hamstring injury in Chelsea’s Champions League quarter-final match against Real Madrid. Mount, meanwhile, has been sidelined following surgery for an abdominal ailment.

Lampard responded to a question regarding Chilwell ahead of Chelsea’s match against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, saying: “Not fit. It’s a similar story to Reece James and Mason Mount. I feel for him. We miss big players. Reece, Mason, and Ben are big internationals.”

With Marc Cucurella also out injured, Lampard indicated that 18-year-old Lewis Hall might make his first senior squad appearance since January. Hall was anticipated to be part of England’s Under-20 World Cup squad, but Chelsea prevented him from attending due to the injuries to Chilwell and Cucurella.

“Lewis has a chance,” Lampard said. “I was tempted to put him on last week, but the experience of Azpi was more suitable. He is a very good player, a really talented player. He needs to come out of himself a bit more. I have been really impressed, and he is in the running for the last four games.”

Hall was not the only player who was denied a place in England’s Under-20 World Cup squad. Rico Lewis of Manchester City and Samuel Iling Junior of Juventus have also been ruled out. Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Bynoe-Gittens also missed out after it was decided that he would have surgery to repair a chronic shoulder injury.
