The London derby between Tottenham and Chelsea calls for goals, dismissals and controversial decisions. This year’s meeting between the two sides did not disappoint, as the side led by Mauricio Pochettino demolished his former side Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 in their own backyard. The Tottenham Hotspur stadium was witness to a Nicolas Jackson hattrick and two Spurs players being sent off.
Tottenham took the lead early on through Dejan Kulusevski, when his shot deflected off of a defender, fooling Robert Sanchez. However, Tottenham’s joy proved to be short-lived when Ange Postecoglou‘s side went a man down. Cristian Romero saw red for his tackle on Enzo Fernandez, before Cole Palmer scored from the spot to convert the penalty.
Destiny Udogie‘s red card proved to be fatal for the home side. His foul on Raheem Sterling earned him a second yellow, reducing the home side to just 9 men. Chelsea then put on the boosters against a depleted Spurs side.
Nicolas Jackson scored into an open net after a Raheem Sterling pass found him alone in the area. Two late goals in injury time proved disastrous for the home side, as the game ended 4-1 to Chelsea.
Fans react to Tottenham’s first loss of the 2023/24 season
Tottenham Hotspur were the only remaining side in the Premier League to suffer a defeat. Monday’s game proved to be the end of the unbeaten run when Mauricio Pochettino schooled his former side in the London Derby. Fans on X are buzzing after a game that had two red cards, multiple disallowed goals and a Nicolas Jackson hattrick came to a close.
One of the fans commented that there should be a moment of silence for all those who missed this game, while others called it peak entertainment and absolute cinema. A fan even said that he could cook noodles during those VAR checks. Optimistic fans commented that Chelsea’s title charge starts now, while the controversial comment included “Spurs robbed.” The win places Chelsea 10th and Tottenham 2nd in the table.
