Chelsea unwilling to offer N’Golo Kante 3-year deal with his contract set to expire in 2023: Reports
N'Golo kante with the trophy
N’Golo Kante has warned Chelsea that in order to renew his contract, he needs a long-term commitment from the Blues. The 31-year-old Frenchman is in the final year of his deal at Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea are eager to discuss his future because, when fit, he is still regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world.
Kante has made it clear that he wants a three-year commitment from Chelsea, whose previous administration was notoriously wary of offering long-term contracts to ageing players. Initial conversations regarding an extension have already taken place. Since no formal offer has been made yet, Chelsea and Kante are still determining what each party wants from the negotiations.
Kante’s recent history of injuries is one thing Chelsea should take into account. The Frenchman has been injured ten times since the start of the 2020–21 season, missing 27 games due to eight different injuries in 2019–20. He has missed his team’s last five games in all competitions.
Furthermore, Kante’s future is intertwined with that of Jorginho, a fellow midfielder who will turn 31 in December and whose contract is set to expire after 12 months. Negotiations with the Italian have not yet begun it is unlikely that Chelsea will offer new contracts to both Jorginho and Kante. The Italian has drawn significant interest from Serie A.

Chelsea are preparing to rebuild their midfield in the near future
According to sources, Chelsea was willing to take advantage of the interest in Jorginho this summer from Juventus, Roma, and Lazio, the latter of which is headed by Maurizio Sarri, who brought Jorginho to Chelsea. Chelsea’s new emphasis is on rebuilding the midfield after addressing the defence throughout the summer.
In the next months, choices will be taken on the futures of Kante and Jorginho. Mason Mount is expected to receive a long-term contract extension, while Chelsea may shortly make a second bid to Ajax for Edson Alvarez, who was hoping to seal a Deadline Day transfer to Stamford Bridge.
