Chelsea’s manager Thomas Tuchel referred to Antonio Conte as Romelu Lukaku’s ‘daddy’: Reports

Chelsea’s manager Thomas Tuchel referred to Antonio Conte as Romelu Lukaku’s ‘daddy’: Reports

After making a joke that “didn’t go over very well” with the Belgian attacker, Romelu Lukaku and Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel allegedly “broke their friendship.”

Just a year after leaving the Italian powerhouses for Stamford Bridge, Lukaku has returned to Serie A’s Inter Milan on a season-long loan from Chelsea, it was announced on Wednesday.

Inter will pay the 29-year-old’s full salary, while Simone Inzaghi’s team will give Chelsea a loan fee of £6.9 million-plus £3.5 million in incentives if they win the Scudetto. The player scored 15 goals in 44 outings for the Blues last season.

After rejoining the team, Lukaku, who claims he was in communication with Inzaghi the whole previous campaign, says it feels like “coming home.” When he traveled to England, he said, “I didn’t even leave my house, which shows how glad I am to be back here. All I want to see right now is the players on the field.”

Following a subpar Premier League season, the Belgian international’s joy in leaving Chelsea has prompted several reactions from supporters on social media. In fact, on a recent episode of The Italian Football Podcast, GOAL reporter Nizaar Kinsella provided some intriguing insight into Lukaku’s ‘broken’ connection with Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.

Kinsella alleges that Tuchel called previous Inter Milan coach Antonio Conte “daddy” when the two were watching a Spurs game. It was received poorly.

“It was offensive to Chelsea supporters to hear him speak so highly of Inter during the Sky Italia interview. It ended the connection with them” said Lukaku.

“Also occurring behind the scenes but not on television or anything of the kind was another occurrence. Someone informed me that while Tuchel and Lukaku were watching a Tottenham game, Tuchel referred to Antonio Conte as “your daddy.” Even if it was only a joke, Lukaku evidently found it offensive.”

When Inter Milan and Chelsea reached a deal over a season-long loan, it was said last week that Lukaku “was brought to tears.”

According to the Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, Mario reportedly grew tearful when his lawyer Sebastien Ledure revealed the news of his departure after negotiations reportedly halted when Inter president Steven Zhang tried to alter the financial package. To get a transfer back to the San Siro, the attacker has agreed to a 30% wage reduction.
