Colombian footballing prodigy dies after collapsing in training

Andres Balanta a midfielder for Columbia, passed away unexpectedly on November 29, 2022. Everyone was surprised by his untimely death. According to rumors, Balanta passed out while working out at Atletico Tucuman. After the holiday break, the player showed up for his team’s first practice and was abruptly discovered collapsed as a result of a cardiorespiratory attack.

Balanta was brought to a medical facility in San Miguel de Tucuman. Despite the 40-minute rejuvenation procedure, he was pronounced dead at the Centro de Salud hospital. Balanta was hospitalized in 2019 for a related issue. However, his electrocardiogram and MRI from that time showed no abnormalities.

Andrés Felipe Balanta Cifuentes (18 January 2000 – 29 November 2022) was a defensive midfielder for Deportivo Cali and Atlético Tucumán. He competed at every youth level for his country. Argentine club Atlético Tucumán’s technical director Lucas Pusineri requested the Colombian’s service in June 2022 by a loan from Deportivo Cali. He was contracted to remain at the club until June 2023. This was his first experience playing outside Colombia.

The first-division club officials verified the news of Balanta’s passing. Ignacio Golobisky, the Atletico Tucuman spokesperson, stated to the media: “We regret to inform you about the death of Andres Balanta. The club’s supporters are deeply saddened today. Of course, we support his family, teammates, and friends,”.
