Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol (CONMEBOL) made a historic announcement of hosting the three games of the 2030 FIFA World Cup in South America. Yes! Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay will hold the opening games. This will be the first time ever that a FIFA World Cup will be held in 6 countries, spread over 3 continents.
Also, Spain, Portugal, and Morocco will also be hosting this important event. So, it means that the Centario World Cup will be celebrated in 6 countries. Meanwhile, this also suggests that these 6 countries will gain automatic qualification for the World Cup. Further, this multi-country, multi-continent approach emphasizes the importance of including diverse cultures and regions in football.
CONMEBOL president stated, “We aimed high and dreamed big. The 2030 Centenario World Cup starts where it all began. The host of the opening matches of the Centenario World Cup will be Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina.” This is the first time the FIFA tournament will be played across continents 1000 miles apart.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino delivered a message to the world, emphasizing unity in a divided world through football. He stated, “In 2030, we will achieve a truly global presence, with six countries – Argentina, Morocco, Paraguay, Portugal, Spain, and Uruguay – across three continents – Africa, Europe, and South America – coming together to celebrate the centenary of the FIFA World Cup. This represents a powerful message of peace, tolerance, and inclusion.”
