The moment when Valencia scored the tournament's first goal but it was ruled out by VAR
The 2022 FIFA World Cup has already begun with Qatar facing off against South American nation Ecuador in the tournament’s first game. The Qatar world cup has been in the headlines for all wrong and notorious reasons.
The FIFA Organization and Qatar have been accused of corruption, bribery, and violation of human rights on numerous occasions by the media. This FIFA World Cup has many controversies attached to it, including how it is held in the winter this year.
The tournament started off with a controversial VAR call in the first match as the host nation conceded a goal by a header struck by Enner Valencia in the first 10 minutes of the match.
Enner Valencia’s goal in the 5th minute of the first half was abruptly disallowed because Valencia appeared to be offside. Although, images suggested that there was a Qatari player on the last line, making the goal valid.
The host nation has not lost the opening match of the FIFA World Cup tournament in the last 44 years. The early Ecuador goal would have changed the odds in the visitors’ favor. Has the corruption at the tournament already started with this overruled goal?

The first match of the competition is between the host nations Qatar and the South American nation Ecuador. While Ecuador is familiar with playing in the FIFA World Cup, it will be the first time that Qatar will be participating in this prestigious tournament.
Ecuador has not conceded a goal in their last 6 fixtures and has a solid defensive line that is tough to break for any country. Their captain, Enner Valencia, is the country’s top scorer and will play a huge role in Ecuador’s journey.
On the other side, Qatar is a very fresh team who are still in the progress to become one of the best teams in their continent. They recently won the AFC Asian Cup held in 2019. Who do you think would come on top of this fixture?
